That great quote was by Warren Miller, World famous Snow skiing Filmmaker & definitely not a 'candy-ass'. We met up with Warren at Big Sky, Montana on a 6 week road trip a few years ago. Although we thought we were pretty cool, he thought we were basically 'candy-asses' for renting a 30' motor home for the trip; as compared to the winter of 1946 he survived in a 6' x 8' aluminum trailer, behind his VW, in the Sun Valley Ski Resort parking lot. Now, because 'candy-ass' is a strong title, and Warren is basically 'the man', we proudly left the heat off in the motorhome all night, at 8,000', at 14 degrees... And, to reaffirm that we are not 'candy-asses', we spent the next two weeks, 5 states, & 12 ski resorts with a frozen-solid water system that honestly didn't thaw until 3 days after we hit Phoenix, AZ. I refuse to comment on "the thawing".
Flight Training School & Family Adventure Vacations
Sunshine, Pool, Excursions, Best Flight School in America! Although flying in the winter actually provides the calmest air and the most incredible sights, its cold. So, we have dialed in something that really might, well just read on... "Family Adventure Vacation!". Just pack your bags and we handle the rest. Basing our operation out of Phoenix, Arizona and the accredited Ultralight Flight Training Center, we've continued instruction all winter. Typically the student-pilot is busy only in the mornings and early evenings which compliment the 'family trip'. We organize incredible accommodations and some unbelievable family activities & excursions during the day. These activities include fishing trips, catered 4-wheel Jeep excursions, horseback riding, waterparks, mountain biking, glider rides, hiking, the mall, endless go-kart racing and of course, hammock napping & snake-hunting for the kids! We will continue organizing adventure vacations for families with a student pilot well into the summer so give us a call if you're interested. It is affordable & really is a great way to learn to fly and impossible to completely describe in this little newsletter.
Product Design
Although we try to make everyone believe we fly Trikes for a living, never wear ties or eat yogurt, we honestly do have real jobs... Denny is a partner in a small marine engineering & product design firm in Seattle, which coincidentally ended up doing a substantial amount of new product design for Northwing Aviation, the largest domestic manufacturer of trikes & hangliders. We've made some awesome changes that will better enable our industry & products to resemble that of the Personal Watercraft, Motorcycle, and Snowmobile industries. So, the new model year will be exciting for us as a unique Retail & Instructional facility as well as in New Product Design. We will be publicly introducing our new equipment this year at Oshkosh Wisconsin, Sun-n-Fun in Florida & the Arlington Washington Fly-in. Backcountry Aerosports is one of the few Dealer & Instruction Schools that is involved with manufacturing as a new product designer and developer. We look forward to passing along the education weve received from this experience.
Last Summer Recap
I want to thank all of you enthusiasts, thrill-seekers & new student-pilots who made last summer a success! Only one person puked! I want to thank you all for keeping the faith in our form of aviation. Regardless of whether you're lounging in a commercial jet or strapped onto a 'flying weed eater', it takes a special type of person to put trust in an unfamiliar aircraft and pilot. We will continue to provide a safe, yet unforgettable experience in your area again this summer.
